A machine that powers on with fans spinning and no picture is memory, a loose graphics card, or the display path more often than the board. The board is the last thing that gets blamed here, after everything cheaper has been tested.
At your home I test power delivery, memory, storage, and the display path in that order, read the beep codes or blink patterns the machine gives, and tell you what actually failed. When it really is the board, you get real numbers: on desktops a replacement is often very doable, on laptops it depends on the model, and either way the drive inside is fine and your files are saved.

Custom and gaming desktops
Power supplies fail more than boards, and a graphics card that has worked loose or run hot explains most no-display cases. Board swaps on desktops are routine and keep everything else.
Dell desktops and laptops
Dell’s power light blink codes and the F12 diagnostics name the failed part before anything is opened. Dell boards are model-specific and usually available.
HP
HP’s caps lock blink count is the error code. Pavilion and Envy laptop boards are model-specific; on an older machine the honest answer is sometimes a new laptop and your files moved.
Lenovo
The emergency reset pinhole clears stuck power states on most Lenovo laptops. ThinkPad boards are available and worth replacing on a machine that is otherwise good.
After a spill or a power surge
Spills need the board opened and cleaned quickly. A surge that took out a desktop usually took the power supply, not the board, and that is a cheap fix.
Apple
MacBook logic boards are Apple’s territory when the machine is under AppleCare. Out of warranty, we talk honestly about whether the board is worth more than the machine.
