How the Upgrade Works
Laptops take one of three drive types, and two of them look identical, so step one is confirming the exact slot from your model before anything is ordered. Some thin laptops and most Chromebooks have storage soldered to the board; if yours does, you hear that on the phone, not at your door.
The copy is a full clone: Windows, programs, files, settings, and activation all come across, and the computer boots to the same desktop it had before. Your old drive comes back to you as a spare backup or, on a desktop, stays in as extra storage.
If the old drive is already failing, the order changes: your files are copied off gently and read-only first, then Windows is reinstalled fresh on the new drive and your files moved back. Either way you get the plan and the total before I start.
Turnaround: most hardware repairs are completed within about 24 hours — exact timing depends on the specific issue and, for replacements, parts availability for your model. You’ll always get an honest estimate of both cost and time before any work begins.
Warranty: every repair is backed by a 30-day workmanship warranty, and replacement parts carry their manufacturer’s warranty. If something I fixed acts up within a month, I come back and make it right.

Can you put an SSD in my laptop and keep everything the way it is?
Yes. A solid-state drive is the single biggest speed upgrade a computer can get, and it does not mean starting over. The existing drive is copied onto the new one, Windows, programs, files, and settings included, so the machine boots to the same desktop, just five to ten times faster. The old drive goes back to you as a spare backup.
The part that needs a technician is knowing which drive the machine takes. Laptops use either a 2.5 inch SATA drive or a small M.2 card, and M.2 comes in SATA and NVMe flavors that look alike and are not interchangeable. Some thin laptops and most Chromebooks have storage soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded at all. I confirm the exact slot from the model before ordering, at your home, and the swap and copy happen there too.

By brand
Dell
Inspiron and Latitude laptops from about 2016 on take an M.2 drive, and many also have a 2.5 inch bay. The Dell service tag tells me exactly which. Older Inspirons with a 2.5 inch hard drive are the easiest and most dramatic upgrade there is.
HP
HP Pavilion and Envy models mix 2.5 inch bays and M.2 slots by year. HP Stream and some budget 14 and 15 inch models have soldered eMMC storage that cannot be upgraded, and I check for that before quoting.
Lenovo
ThinkPads are built to be opened and take an M.2 drive with one screw. IdeaPad 1 and some IdeaPad 3 models have soldered storage. Yoga models vary by year; the serial settles it.
ASUS and Acer
VivoBook, Zenbook, Aspire, and Swift laptops mostly use M.2, and several models have an empty second slot, so the new drive can go in alongside the old one. Gaming models from both brands often have two slots.
Apple
MacBooks from 2016 on have storage soldered to the logic board and cannot be upgraded. MacBook Air and Pro from 2012 to 2015 take a proprietary blade SSD and are worth upgrading; older ones with a 2.5 inch drive are an easy swap.
Desktops
Any desktop can take an SSD. Most gain a 2.5 inch or M.2 drive as the boot drive while the old hard drive stays in for storage, which is the best of both.
