By brand
HP
HP Pavilion and Envy hinges are the most common hinge repair there is. The brass inserts pull out of the bottom case, so the fix is a new bottom case, sometimes a new lid, plus the hinges. Do not keep opening it; the cable is next.
Dell
Inspiron hinges fail the same way as HP’s. Latitude hinges are sturdier and usually just need the hinge set. The service tag identifies the exact case parts.
Lenovo
IdeaPad hinges crack the bottom case; Yoga and other 360-degree hinges wear differently and are matched by model. ThinkPads rarely have hinge trouble at all.
