How a Slow Computer Gets Fast Again
I look at what the machine is doing while it is slow, not at a checklist: drive activity, memory pressure, temperatures, and what is running that you never asked for. That tells me whether this is a $75 tune-up or a drive upgrade before anything is touched.
For most computers built in the last eight years, the real answer is a solid-state drive. Everything is copied over so the machine boots to the same desktop, five to ten times faster. It is the closest thing to a new computer that is not a new computer, for a fraction of the price.
If the honest answer is that the machine is at the end of the road, I say so, and I help you move to a new one or a good refurbished laptop instead of charging you for a tune-up that will not satisfy.
Turnaround: most hardware repairs are completed within about 24 hours — exact timing depends on the specific issue and, for replacements, parts availability for your model. You’ll always get an honest estimate of both cost and time before any work begins.

My computer takes forever to start and freezes when I open anything
A computer that was fine a year ago and crawls now is almost never “just old.” It is one of four things, in this order: a spinning hard drive that Windows has outgrown, too little memory for the number of tabs and programs open, a startup list full of software that installed itself, or heat, when dust and dried thermal paste make the processor slow itself down to survive. Rebooting helps for a day because it clears the second and third causes, then they come back.
At your home I look at what the machine is actually doing while it is slow: drive activity, memory use, temperatures, and what starts with Windows. Then I fix the real cause. For most computers made in the last eight years that is a solid-state drive, and the difference is not subtle. If the honest answer is that the machine is not worth the money, you hear that before anything is spent.

A computer tune-up and cleanup is a flat $75. If the fix is a solid-state drive, that is $85 labor plus the drive, with everything moved over so it boots to the same desktop. Memory is $50 labor plus the part. Diagnosis is free, and I tell you which of those you need before starting.
How fast
Tune-ups and cleanups are finished in the first visit, usually the same day you call. A drive upgrade needs the drive ordered for your model, then about 24 hours.

By what you have
Windows laptops with a spinning drive
If the laptop was sold with a 1 TB drive and cost under $600, it almost certainly has a mechanical hard drive. Windows 10 and 11 were built for solid-state storage, and on a spinning drive they spend minutes just waking up. The drive swap fixes this completely.
HP, Dell, and Lenovo preloads
New machines ship with trial antivirus, support apps, and update helpers that all run at startup. Removing them properly is part of the $75 tune-up, and on some machines it is most of the fix.
4 GB of memory
Any machine still on 4 GB of RAM will freeze with a browser and one program open. If the memory is not soldered, 8 or 16 GB is a cheap, permanent fix. Many thin laptops have soldered memory; I check before promising anything.
Mac
A slow Mac is usually a full drive, a Spotlight index rebuilding, or a login item list that has grown for years. Old Intel MacBooks with mechanical drives get the same solid-state upgrade as Windows machines and feel new afterward.
Desktops
Desktops collect dust, and a processor running hot slows itself down. Cleaning, new thermal paste, and a solid-state drive turn a ten-year-old desktop into a perfectly usable one.
Two antiviruses
An expired trial antivirus fighting with Windows Security is a common cause of a machine that stalls for thirty seconds at a time. One protection, running properly, is the fix.
